About: Engineer's Week (E-Week)

National Engineers Week, founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, is a formal coalition of more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. Dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers' positive contributions to quality of life, E-Week promotes recognition among parents, teachers, and students of the importance of a technical education and a high level of math, science, and technology literacy, and motivates youth, to pursue engineering careers in order to provide a diverse and vigorous engineering workforce. Each year, E-Week reaches thousands of schools, businesses, and community groups across the U.S.

The Westchester / Putnam Chapter recognizes E-Week locally by honoring engineering achievements in our area. Specifically, each year the Chapter issues the following awards:


Engineer of the Year
The Chapter’s highest award. The award is presented to a professional engineer who is judged to have contributed substantially to the engineering profession.
Outstanding Service to the Chapter
Presented to the Chapter member who has devoted countless hours of time to improve the Chapter’s standing in the community and in the profession.
Outstanding Engineer in Government
Presented to the outstanding professional engineer employed by the State, Local or Federal government or agency who has contributed substantially to the engineering profession.
Young Engineer of the Year
Presented to the outstanding young professional who has contributed substantially to the engineering profession. Nominees for this award must be 35 years of age or younger.
Outstanding Engineer in Construction
Presented to the outstanding engineer employed in the construction industry who has contributed substantially to the engineering profession.
Outstanding Service to the Profession
Presented to the individual who has contributed substantially to the engineering profession.
Outstanding Engineer in Private Practice
Presented to the outstanding engineer in private practice who has contributed substantially to the engineering profession.
Project of the Year
Awarded to the outstanding construction project in the current calendar year. Construction must be substantially complete in the current calendar year. The project must be located in either Westchester or Putnam County or designed by a consulting engineering firm located in Westchester or Putnam County. Full color documentation and story board must be submitted along with the nomination form.
